Description
The Peoria German-American Society’s annual Maifest, will be held Sunday, May 1st at the Lindenhof, 7601 N. Harker Drive, Peoria, Illinois, from Noon to 6 pm. Admission to the event is free.
This year’s Maifest will offer a wide variety of German entertainment and food. Entertainment includes: Al's Pals Band and Combo, Lindenhof Echos (Alpine Horns), Gemischterchor (Choir), Peoria Volkstänzer, and other entertainers performing traditional German music. The traditional dance around the Maipole will be included in the festivities. Activities for the kids will also be provided. EPIC will be on hand selling plants and vegetables starts. The Damenchor German Gift Shop will be selling items perfect for Mother’s Day!
Attendees will enjoy German foods, wines and Maibock beer.
Maifest marks the revival of life in early spring after a long cold winter. In medieval times, Maifest became the favorite holiday. People would gather spring flowers to decorate their homes and churches and perform dances around the Maipole.
The event is being sponsored by the Music and Culture Committee, of the German American Society of Peoria. This is a family friendly event for all ages.
