Reflecting on My First Weeks in Peoria

Reflecting on My First Weeks in Peoria

It’s been less than three weeks since I began the next chapter of my career here in Peoria and the community has welcomed me with open arms. I’m Madeline Herrman, the new Managing Director of Talent and Leadership Strategy at the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce, and I couldn’t be more excited to join this incredible team.

From day one, Peoria made a lasting impression.

This region is thinking big. In my first conversations with community leaders, the ideas were bold and inspiring, focused on attracting new businesses, engaging young professionals and reimagining downtown and core spaces. The energy here is forward-focused and people are committed to shaping a thriving future.

I’ve enjoyed many delicious meals at locally owned restaurants, started a “must-do” experience list that’s growing daily and heard story after story about how businesses give back. What stands out most is how connected everyone is, working together to make Peoria stronger for generations ahead. The Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce is at the table promoting the business community’s connection with the region and its growth.

Starting a new role means meeting many new faces, and every person I’ve met shares one thing in common: a deep passion for Peoria. Some are lifelong residents who’ve built their lives here while others came for work and stayed for the sense of community and opportunity. That enthusiasm is contagious.

There’s much more to come as the business community grows, new initiatives spur the future of industry and celebrations mark our milestones. Peoria and its businesses are primed for success. In my role, I’ll lead the Chamber’s current leadership and talent retention initiatives including the Young Professionals of Greater Peoria (YPGP) program, Community Leadership School, and the upcoming RISE Summit. I’ll also be working with the Chamber’s staff and volunteers to create new initiatives to drive talent attraction and retention for the Greater Peoria region.

If we haven’t met yet, I’d love to connect whether it’s touring your business, hearing your ideas for the future over coffee or getting your recommendation for the best lunch spot in town. You can reach me at mherrman@peoriachamber.org

I look forward to meeting you soon.
