SUMMARY:Gold Star Mission Welcome Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:The signature event for the Gold Star Mission is a 4 day 500 mile bicycle ride around the state of IL. This year the route will take the riders through Peoria on the afternoon of Wednesday September 25th. The Gold Star Mission is an organization made up of active duty and retired military personnel with the sole goal of bringing awareness and remembrance to the 34 IL National Guardsmen that we have lost in combat since September 11th. 34 cyclist each riding in the memory of a fallen guardsmen will arrive in at the Gateway building in downtown Peoria at 3pm on Wednesday September 25th. A celebration has been planned to welcome the riders and show them that we not only care about the fallen that they are riding for but for everyone that has taking a part in serving our great nation. Festivities will include a performance by the Navy Great Lakes Band and speeches form community leaders.
