SUMMARY:Member Seminar - SafeZone Training
DESCRIPTION:We hope that you'll join us on Friday\, June 9th to learn more about SafeZone Training and how your business or organization can benefit from it. \n\nSafe Zone training is an opportunity to learn about LGBTQ+ identities\, gender\, and sexuality\, and examine prejudice\, assumptions\, and privilege. LGBTQ+ folks sometimes question whether they will feel safe\, welcomed\, or supported in a new environment and this training aims to help you create that environment for them. Additionally\, there is pressure for businesses and organizations to already know how to be LGBTQ+ inclusive. And while many of us want to be\, we don't necessarily feel comfortable with the language\, with our own level of understanding\, and don't know where to go to learn more. Safe Zone training is a safe place for people where they can go to learn more. The training is designed to be 3 hours long and during that time\, your staff will be discussing some basic terminology surrounding the LGBTQ+ Community\, walking through some best practices for interacting with LGBTQ+ folks\, and talking about creating safe spaces for the community. \n\n \n\nThis lunch and learn will be hosted by Cassie Lucchesi (She/Her)\, President of Peoria Proud. Cassie is originally from Milwaukee\, Wisconsin\, and graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelor's degree in Communications then made Peoria her home. She worked in education for 8 years before transitioning into social services. She's developed a curriculum on a variety of topics including social and emotional learning\, healthy relationships\, human trafficking\, sexual assault\, domestic violence\, and sexual harassment. In 2019 Cassie started volunteering with Peoria Proud and quickly became a board member\, then\, in 2021 became the President. Peoria Proud' s mission is to encourage and support diversity and equality throughout the Peoria Metropolitan area. The coalition seeks to unify the community\, through advocacy\, education\, and social outreach. Cassie has provided Safe Zone training in the Peoria area including educators\, professionals\, students\, and community members who desire to learn and ultimately create safer spaces for the LGBTQ community for the last 7+ years. It is Cassie's passion to educate folks about the LGBTQ community\, the difficulties they face\, and the ways we can make our city safer for all.
