The 2nd annual Fight the Fight Addiction Awareness Walk, sponsored by Gateway Foundation is hosted by Wendy McCready, a local mother who lost her son to a heroin overdose who believes that having readily available Nalaxone and education can prevent future deaths due to overdose. This event will include speakers from the community, walk around lagoon, information on addiction/recovery, dove release/race, and music. Event t-shirts and hoodies will be available for purchase. Free Naloxone & training will also be available. Proceeds from this event will go towards the JOLT Foundation for Narcan emergency overdose nasal spray to be distributed in the community as well as help those struggling with substance use disorder pay for rent at a Sober Living House after they complete inpatient rehab. Participants can purchase their t-shirts on Friday night, August 11, at Gateway Foundation located at 11 S. Capital Street, Pekin, from 4 pm – 7 pm.
