ArtsPartners of Central Illinois proudly presents the fifth annual Ignite Peoria festival at the Peoria Civic Center on Saturday, August 11th from 9-5pm. Ignite Peoria showcases hundreds of local makers, musicians, artists, innovators, dancers, and actors. The festival provides a STEAM-inspired FREE day of fun and learning that is perfect for the whole family. STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. Since its launch in 2014, Ignite Peoria has brought over 20,000 young people and their families to the Peoria Civic Center to experience and explore central Illinois’ vibrant arts scene and unique maker community. The Proud Home of River City Labs’ MidWest Makerfest, Ignite Peoria features over 100 hands-on creation stations where attendees can experience everything from painting to 3-D Printing and more. Additionally, the event features theatre, dance, writing, and technology workshops; a robotics “Bot Brawl” competition; and two live performance stages. Creation Stations will be located in Exhibit Halls A and B and will offer a range of hands-on art activities such as pottery, painting, sculpting, weaving & stitching, an instrument petting zoo, jewelry making, magic demonstrations, comic art, print projects, artistic displays, photography, music games, and more! While admission to the event is free, individual booths may charge a small fee for certain “make and take” activities. This area will also feature art on display, art for sale, and artists demonstrating their art in action. River City Labs’ Midwest Makerfest will be located in Exhibit Hall C and will feature DIY, 3D printing, 3D people-scanning, yard-sized board games, smart grid technology, wood-turning demonstrations, robotics demonstrations, and the largest “Bot Brawl” competition in the Midwest! Midwest MakerFest is Peoria's chance to experience, firsthand, the art of making, tinkering, and inventing.
