The Stock Market Challenge

Description

The Stock Market Challenge is an exciting, fast-paced competition, which is centered on a software system that simulates a 60-day cycle of the stock market and its functions of buying, selling, analysis, and risk.  To begin, teams (3-4 players) are given a list and description of 26 fictitious stocks and $1,000,000 trading dollars which is used to invest in a stock portfolio.  Once the bell is rung, the market is open for two 30-day sessions.  Each day is 80 seconds long. Teams make trades through volunteer floor traders. Each floor trader is equipped with a hand-held computer that wirelessly transmits the teams' orders instantly into the system, making each transaction occur in real time on the screen. Teams may track the performance of their portfolios and their standings from information provided on three big screens and from print outs.  Throughout the event, hot tips and news releases give teams insight into market and stock trends and how certain stocks will perform.  How well teams interpret this information is imperative to their success. Winning teams are determined at the end of the simulation by net worth and net percentage growth.
