Ukrainian Tribute

Westminster Presbyterian Church (1420 W Moss Avenue, Peoria) will present the Gretchen R. Iben Arts Series performance “Ukrainian Tribute”. On Feb. 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a “special military operation” of armed forces into Ukrainian territory, the purported rationale being to “denazify” Ukraine and thwart the country’s ambitions to join NATO. Besides, Putin argued, “Ukraine has no culture of its own.” Two years later, area musicians will gather to present an all-Ukrainian composer program of solo and chamber music in a gesture of solidarity with the people of Ukraine. The Gretchen R. Iben Fine Arts is pleased to present Dr. John Orfe, piano, Polly Brecht, organ and piano, Marcia Henry Liebenow, violin, Karen Martin, violin and Adrian Goméz Hernández, cello. These artists will perform works by Viktor Kosenko, Ihor Shamo, Borys Lyatoshynsky, Nikolai Kapustin, and more on Sunday, February 25 at four o’clock. Admission is free. A free-will offering will be received for the ongoing ministry of the Iben Series. All are welcome to join us for this superb musical tribute to Ukraine.
