RED SNEAKERS PEORIA TEAMS WITH CLINK TO LAUNCH ALLERGY FRIENDLY RESTAURANT
Red Sneakers for Food Allergy Awareness - Peoria Chapter is donating epinephrine injectors and more to make Clink the first allergy friendly restaurant in the area.
Peoria Heights, IL – May 2, 2024 - Red Sneakers Peoria has partnered with Clink Bar and Events in Peoria Heights, IL to become the first Allergy Friendly restaurant in the area.
They will be the first restaurant in the area to be epinephrine injector equipped. Epinephrine is the only medication to help reverse a severe allergic reaction. Red Sneakers Peoria has partnered with Auvi-q, the epinephrine injector that talks to you while using the medication, to donate the epinephrine injectors. Clink staff will be food allergy trained by FARECheck, ServSafe and CPR certified by the American Heart Association. The education, training, certifications and medications will be donated by Red Sneakers Peoria.
33 million Americans have food allergies, and every 3 minutes, a food allergy reaction sends someone to the emergency room. Restaurants are the second most common place where a food allergy reaction occurs at 21%. Due to epinephrine costs and or lack of education, many people do not carry epinephrine with them. Under the Illinois Epinephrine Injector Act, restaurants are able to be epinephrine injector equipped by following guidelines. Red Sneakers Peoria is providing a comprehensive solution to meet those requirements.
The Launch party will be May 2nd from 5pm -10pm, to showcase the Allergy Friendly partnership with Clink. 15% of the evenings proceeds will go to Red Sneakers Peoria to support this initiative as well as other initiatives. From 5pm-7pm, Red Sneakers Peoria will have a booth with swag and prizes. Online fundraising platform givebutter will allow supporters to get raffle tickets, bid on the silent auction and donate before or during the event. Supporters can also text REDSNEAKERS to 53-555. Epinephrine injector trainers will be available for demonstration and practice as well as information about Red Sneakers Peoria. Top4D will be DJing from 7pm-10pm. Later this year, the Peoria Chapter is hosting their Second Annual 5K Walk/Run for Food Allergy Awareness and Teal Pumpkin Fall Festival on October 12, 2024, in Peoria Heights, Illinois. Sign up for the race, donate, fundraise or sponsor to help provide epinephrine auto-injectors to local first responders and to help make more restaurants in Peoria, IL, allergy friendly. Additional initiatives include; growing the support group, promoting awareness through the Morton Pumpkin Festival Parade & Education Booth, lighting the Murray Baker Bridge RED, planning the first local allergy friendly sporting event, collaborating with MASA to provide better access to therapies for local families, sending a representative to FARE Courage at Congress, providing allergy camp opportunities, organizing other fragmented allergy groups across the country.
